SODISM instrument

SODISM (SOlar Diameter Imager and Surface Mapper) consists of:

  • a telescope mounted on a temperature-stabilized carbon-carbon structure 11 cm in diameter
  • a shutter in front of the filters to avert their premature ageing
  • two filter wheels to obtain the combinations needed for measuring and calibration
  • a cover that is locked for launch
  • a 2048 x 2048-pixel CCD (CCD-EEV 42-80, 13.5-µm detector)

Instrument pointing is accomplished by two devices:

  • the active primary mirror
  • a telescope that guides satellite pointing
